WELLS, June Diane 1929 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of June Diane Wells.
WELLS, June Diane 1929 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of June Diane Wells, (nee Bancroft) during Christmas week in Digby, Nova Scotia. She was educated at UBC and received her MA in modern dance from Smith College in Massachusetts. Diane was a dancer, teacher, sailor, bookseller, mother and always an adventurer. Diane along with her husband John built 2 motor sailors. The first was the `Flying Walrus' which they sailed to the South Pacific and New Zealand. The second boat was the `Vaimari', which they sailed on as a family to England, France and the Mediterranean. After living on Hornby Island, she met Jeri Bass while teaching in Port Hardy. Later, Diane and Jeri moved to the remote Inuit village of Paulatuk, NWT where she continued her passion for teaching. They eventually settled in Victoria and started an antique bookstore business called Wells Books. After over a decade in Victoria, Diane and Jeri pulled anchor with the business and moved to Liverpool, N.S. and then to Freeport, N.S. Diane is survived by her marriage partner Jeri Bass, daughters Pamela (Bob) and Tere (Claude) and grandchildren Zachary Zoe and Alexi. Also left behind are her dear `sister' friends Ann Schweitzer and Bonnie MacLauchlan and Diane's canine companions Jasper and Dickens. As Diane sails on her final voyage of this earth's seas, she would wish for good winds and a pod of whales to guide her on her way. Donations to the SPCA are appreciated. 646057
